Collagen is a type of protein that provides the structural scaffolding for your body's connective tissues, cells, and organs. Your body uses it to produce such connective tissues as skin, ligaments, and cartilage.

To manufacture collagen, which makes up around 75 percent of your skin and 30 percent of your body overall, your body requires vitamin C, lysine, and proline. These ingredients may combine to help form procollagen, from which various forms of collagen are produced in your body.
