Clinical Manifestations

• Heart blood deficiency: forgetfulness and palpitations.
• Hyperactivity of yang due to Heart blood deficiency: irritability and insomnia.
• Malnourishment due to Blood deficiency: lassitude
• Yin-defi cient/fire consuming fluids : dry stools
• Yin-defi cient/fire rising : tongue ulcerations
• Tongue Appearances: Red tongue body (especially red dots at the tip) with little coating. May also be sores of the mouth and tongue.
• Pulse Patterns: fine, rapid pulse.

Clinical Applications
Irritability, palpitations with anxiety, fatigue, insomnia with very restless sleep, difficult concentrating for even short periods of time, fibromyalgia, nocturnal emissions, forgetfulness, dry stools, low grade fever, night sweats, hypertension, hyperthyroidism, neuroasthenia, mental instability, ADHD, impotence, and hepatitis.

Formula Rationale
Harmovex (Emperor of Heaven Heart Tonifying Pills) is designed to treat Heart and Kidney deficiencies with yin and blood insufficiencies.

Di Huang is the chief herb in this formula; its main actions are tonifying yin and blood to help control hyperactivity of yang and moisten dryness. Di Huang also nourishes Kidney water and helps to control Heart fire.

Xuan Shen, Tian Dong, and Mai Men Dong are assistant herbs to further
strengthen yin to clear fi re. Dan Shen and Dang Gui both act to tonify and activate blood circulation.

Dang Shen and Fu Ling tonify qi to calm the shen (mind). Suan Zao Ren and Wu Wei Zi astringe the Heart qi to calm the shen (mind). Bai Zi Ren and Yuan Zhi nourish the Heart to calm the shen (mind). Jie Gen leads all the herb actions to the Upper Jiao (burner).
