Inonotus obliquus, more commonly referred to as Chaga mushroom, is a type of fungus that grows mainly on the bark of birch trees in cold climates, such as Northern Europe, Siberia, Russia, Korea, Northern Canada and Alaska. Traditionally it has been used for quenching inflammation, increasing antioxidant levels, regulating blood sugars and supporting heart health.
Animal studies have found that chaga can promote the formation of beneficial cytokines and prevent the production of harmful cytokines, ultimately providing anti-inflammatory support, antibacterial activity and antiviral action. Moreover, animal trials have found that chaga may help with metabolic syndrome by improving insulin resistance, reducing LDL-cholesterol, lowering triglycerides, increasing HDL-cholesterol and increasing antioxidant status.
