Superior Wound Bed Protection

MEDIHONEY Antibacterial Honey Apinate Dressing protects the wound by creating a barrier against wound pathogens including antibiotic resistant strains therefore reducing the risk of infection. The osmotic action produces an outflow of body fluid which assists the removal of wound bacteria, endotoxins, debris and slough, providing a cleaner wound, rapidly removing malodour and helping to reduce the inflammatory response, oedema and exudate levels. Granulation and epithelialisation are enhanced through provision of the optimal healing environment.

MEDIHONEY Antibacterial Honey Apinate Dressing creates a micro-environment that supports healing and provides an antibacterial barrier.

Directions For Use

  1. If required, protect the wound edges with MEDIHONEY Barrier Cream.
  2. Place the dressing onto the wound surface ensuring that the dressing is in contact with the wound bed. Dressings can be placed alongside or on top of one another to cover large or deep areas. Alternatively, the wound may be filled with MEDIHONEY Antibacterial Medical Honey before applying the dressing. The dressing may be cut with sterile scissors
  3. A suitable secondary sterile dressing should be applied to cover the MEDIHONEY Antibacterial Honey Apinate Dressing. The secondary dressing should be sufficiently absorbent to manage wound exudate.
  4. The wound may be cleaned between dressing changes in accordance with standard would cleaning protocol.

Suitable for use under compression dressings.
Frequency Of Change

  • MEDIHONEY Antibacterial Honey Apinate Dressing requires changing when they have been diluted by wound exudate and/or when the dressing has gelled. The dressing may be left in place for up to 7 days depending on the amount of wound exudate.
  • MEDIHONEY Antibacterial Honey Apinate Dressing is non-adherent. It is easy to remove without disrupting the wound bed and new tissue.
  • Heavily exudating wounds require close monitoring  and may require daily dressing changes.
Contraindications

Do not use on individuals who have a known sensitivity to any component present in the dressing.

Precautions

  • Transient stinging may be experienced on application of the dressing. This is due to natural properties of the honey and is not detrimental to the wound. If transient stinging persists and cannot be managed with an analgesic after 30 minutes, remove the dressing and was the affected area.
  • When used on dry wounds, it may be helpful to moisten the dressing to aid removal.
  • Use with caution on heavily bleeding wounds.
